Tamanu Oil – A Gentle Remedy from the Days of Our Grandparents

When the first rains of early summer arrive, mosquitoes begin to breed again.
The children at home would often scratch at mosquito bites, and on humid days, tiny boils and rashes would sometimes appear on the skin.
In moments like these, we are reminded of the simple, trusted remedy our grandparents once used — tamanu oil.
In the countryside, tamanu trees (Calophyllum inophyllum) grow abundantly along roadsides, rivers, and open fields.
The trees grow slowly, but once mature, they bear heavy fruit each season.
The aged fruits are gathered, their seeds extracted and cold-pressed into a thick, slightly pungent oil — traditionally used to soothe minor burns, insect bites, cracked skin, and rashes during harsh weather.
Tamanu oil is nothing exotic, nor is it a miracle cure.
It’s simply a way our elders used what nature offered to care for themselves — with patience, simplicity, and quiet wisdom.
Today at The Bloom, we preserve that way of making — but with even greater care:
🌱 Seeds are harvested from naturally grown trees in Quảng Nam and Bến Tre, selected for freshness and quality.
🌱 After shelling, the seeds are meticulously cleaned, sterilized, and cold-pressed — without refining, heating, or additives.
🌱 The oil is slowly filtered through multiple layers of fabric, preserving its natural color and living aroma.
Each batch of tamanu oil carries a slightly different scent — depending on the season and freshness of the seeds.
Some batches smell gently herbal, while others have a sharper, raw seed aroma.
We do not attempt to standardize this — because the variations are the hallmark of a product that is alive, natural, and authentic.
Tamanu oil is not edible due to its naturally bitter taste.
However, if accidentally ingested in small amounts or if it comes into contact with the eyes, it is harmless — simply rinse with clean water if irritation occurs.
Cold-pressed tamanu oil is suitable for all ages — children, the elderly, women, and men alike.
Use it for:
Treating minor burns and insect bites
Moisturizing and restoring the skin's natural barrier
Soothing irritated, sensitive, or blemish-prone skin
Blending with other carrier oils for daily skincare
At The Bloom, we believe:
The simplest things, when made with care, can continue to thrive alongside modern life — natural, safe, and sustainable ways to care for ourselves.
